Freedom School Returns

It’s that time y’all, we’re about to kick off another year of Freedom School! This year will be the last that we offer it and I hope you’ll consider joining us.

I’ve been spending a lot of time in my library working on this year’s curriculum –as usual, it’s going to be jam-packed. There’s so much to cover.

Freedom School is when I get to facilitate deep dives into gender, race, and class, into Black feminist sociology, it’s where we get to dig into pivotal writings that helped form various movements.

It’s when I get to explore issues like the intersection of Christianity, capitalism, and climate…

Freedom School is where we unpack all the lies that we’ve been taught and the histories we never learned.

This is why Freedom School is my favorite, favorite thing to teach.

What is Freedom school?

Freedom School is a year-long program (we meet once a month) that will give you the analysis, intellectual framework, and practical tools you need to think critically about oppression and actively move towards liberation.

The entire 12 months will be unapologetically rooted in a Black feminist perspective.

We have been so proud to run Freedom School for the past four years and create a community of learners, explorers, and activists.

This will be the last year we run Freedom school, so if you ever thought about taking it now is the time. Make 2022 the year of liberation!

Freedom School will help you develop your self-awareness and capacity to act in ways that will create a lasting impact.

Once a month the participants of Freedom School will gather for a 90-minute interactive workshop led by Desiree Adaway and Key Jackson. These will be recorded if you can’t attend live. You will also receive additional resources each month to further your learning.

Freedom School consists of four modules, each module is three months long. You can participate in all four or register for specific modules. If you are a FS alum know we will have new material in 2022.

Please join us in what will be the best year of Freedom School yet!

“We realize that the liberation of all oppressed peoples necessitates the destruction of the political-economic systems of capitalism and imperialism as well as patriarchy.”

Slow, Deep, Irreversible Work

Hey y'all! My friend, April Baskin, was on a panel in San Francisco recently and was talking about white supremacy, anti-semitism, and anti-Black racism. April mentioned a quote from an artist and organizer, Ricardo Levins Morales: “The work we do should be slow,...

Soft with each other hard on systems

Hello friends! Last week, I had the privilege and honor of speaking on two different panels about how the systems we find ourselves in are hard on every one of us. They are hard on us emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually. Yet, we continue to fight to...

Is it ok to celebrate an inch? Takeaways from 2023

Hi y’all,  A theme we've seen throughout the year with our clients is folks feeling disheartened because their DEI and racial equity work didn’t make as much progress as they’d hoped. We’ve watched staff managing the fallout from layoffs, funding gaps, resource...
